In the town of Can Tho, the largest on the Mekong Delta, there is a small street: the Tran Quoc Toan Street. This small street overflows with murals painted by Vietnamese painters with the purpose of depicting the daily life of the town’s inhabitants. These murals depict Can Tho’s past and present, and the occasion for making them was the celebration of Tet, the Vietnamese lunar new year.
With every step you take, you can sense an atmosphere with a retro flavour. In the time-worn artwork, you catch glimpses of elements that tell the story of the lifelong habits of Can Tho residents, from spending a dreary day on the Mekong Delta to net fishing, from preparing food for lunch to depicting a splendid colonial villa.
