Marco Barbieri is a photographer and video maker, born in Varese, Italy, in 1978. His research focuses mainly on the relationship between man and the environment and to the deep bond of dependence, including cultural dependence, that is created between the individual and his territory. The investigation of reality is constructed through evocations, abstractions and metaphors to produce a narrative that can have different levels of interpretation.

With a degree in Political Science from the University of Milan, he developed a strong inclination for sociology, anthropology and social issues. During his studies, he developed a great curiosity for the visual arts, leading him to attend a filmmaking course held by filmmakers Larissa and Leonid Alekseychuk.

The passion for photography soon after manifested itself as a natural progression and hence the decision to deepen his interest in documentary photography and the language of photography, thanks to Sandro Iovine’s lessons and the Storytelling Academy, organised by the Luz photo agency.

A love of cinema, music and a constant desire to travel has always accompanied his work, which currently takes place between Canton Ticino, Switzerland, and Milan.
