On 3 March 2021, the district of Tcheboa, located in the northern region of Cameroon, vibrated to the rhythm of celebrations marking the official launch of International Women’s Day. This ceremony was held in the commune of Ngong, bringing together women from surrounding villages such as Njolla, Douka Gainako, Boudjoumi, and many others. This festive event highlighted the importance of solidarity<\/strong> and women’s empowerment<\/strong> in this region. <\/p>\n\n

The course of the ceremony<\/h3>\n\n

The day began with the formal arrival of the sub-prefect of Ngong, representative of the local administration. The singing of the national anthem preceded his opening speech, a decisive moment filled with pride and unity. The sub-prefect praised the efforts of women in the district, recognising their essential role in community development and their contribution to socio-economic life. He also encouraged all participants to continue their struggles for equality and work together for a better future. <\/p>\n\n

The president of the district women’s association then took the floor, expressing her gratitude to all those who had travelled there to celebrate this event. She shared inspiring stories of women who, despite daily challenges, continue to fight for their rights and for the recognition of their value in society. Her speech resonated strongly with the participants, galvanising their determination to act for women’s empowerment. <\/p>\n\n

Celebrations and recreational activities<\/h3>\n\n

After the speeches, the ceremony took a festive turn with traditional dances and a folkloric parade of a ‘militia’ of elderly women wielding mock weapons and dressed in the colours of the pagne<\/em> (a type of cloth used as clothing) of the festival. Beaming smiles and lively songs punctuated this celebration, paying homage to local culture and solidarity between women from different villages. Fun activities followed, including games such as sack races, skill contests and tug-of-war. These events, symbols of camaraderie and conviviality, served above all to strengthen bonds between women from different backgrounds. Smiles and applause sustained these women as they gave their best in the various trials and, together, reached the finish line. <\/p>\n\n

The significance of the event<\/h3>\n\n

This preparatory ceremony for International Women’s Day in Ngong was more than just an event: it celebrated women’s strength, courage and resilience in the region. It brought together different generations around a common goal: to make women’s voices heard and to promote gender equality<\/strong> in all dimensions. <\/p>\n\n

On this memorable day, the women of Ngong and surrounding villages demonstrated their determination to continue fighting for their rights, while strengthening the bonds of solidarity and mutual aid that unite them. It was a day marked by hope and commitment, in the run-up to 8 March. <\/p>\n\n
